Mottainai Cycles: Looking Back at 2014 and forward to 2015 – Vintage Bicycle Restoration, Sales, Service, Repair, Hire and Custom Builds

We’re nearing the end of 2014 and what a year it’s been for us. Early this year we moved from our old location on Rose Street to our funky new digs on Johnston Street (Collingwood). While it was sad to be leaving our groovy warehouse behind, moving to a new space offered the opportunity to take Mottainai to the next level.

2014 has seen us working on the finest bikes we have ever done to date – we’ve restored some absolute rippers this year; from classic lightweights to cool single speed conversions, ladies step-throughs to speedy tandems and all steel bicycles in between.
We’ve also been busy servicing all bikes to keep Collingwood rolling. We can now offer same- or next-day turnaround on most jobs plus our famous friendly and relaxed service. No job is too big or small for us so come down today and get your bike spruced up for summer!

We are also happy to announce that we’ve expanded our range of products and accessories to include pumps, lights, helmets, Sturmey Archer parts, Shimano parts (full range available) and the fabulous Melbourne-made Bespoke Chainrings. Over 2015 we are planning to further expand our range so check back frequently to see what’s in store.

Here at Mottainai Cycles we love restoring and building beautiful hand-built steel bikes. We are the antithesis to the shops that sell mass-produced ‘landfill’ bikes for profit alone – we do it for the love! Come check us out at 23 Johnston Street Collingwood (down the laneway next to Studio 52) where we have a collection of some of the coolest bikes in Melbourne! Don’t forget we also service and repair any bike with a same or next day turnaround as well as hiring classy vintage bikes at a competitive price.

Sunday Vintage rides are still continuing, meeting at 9am (to leave at 9.30) at the shop for a casual (no drop) ride to enjoy the thrill of riding vintage roadies. Please RSVP to mottainaivintagebikes at gmail dot com so we can get an idea of numbers for each week.

Mottainai Cycles Restored Vintage Bikes and Custom Builds October 2014

Spring is finally here and as the weather starts to heat up again so does Melbourne’s thriving bicycle scene. Here at Mottainai Cycles we’ve been busily restoring some of the classiest vintage whips in town: hi-end steel race bikes, robust three-speed commuters, simple and elegant single speeds and pretty much everything else that was made for the joy of cycling rather than mass produced for profit. Speaking of the joy of cycling we are restarting our Sunday vintage rides for spring at the revised time of 9am (rolling at 9.30) so why not grab your steel roadie and come join us!

For those that don’t know us already Mottainai Cycles is Melbourne’s only bike shop specialising in vintage restorations and we exist purely because of our love of bicycles. We also custom build bikes, offer hire bikes as well as service and repair any bikes. We are located at 23 Johnston Street (down the laneway), open every day 8.30-6.30 weekdays and 10.30-6.30 weekends. Contact (zero four)66670316 mottainaivintagebikes@gmail.com
